Bemo 1286116 H0m Xm 2/2 9916 tower railcar, RhB, Era II-III
The Bemo 1286116 H0m Xm 2/2 9916 tower railcar is an exact reproduction of one of the most versatile working vehicles of the Rhaetian Railway (RhB). Developed for the catenary service on the Bernina line, this model impresses with its detailed design and state-of-the-art model railroad technology. With its historic paint scheme and authentic functions, the tower railcar is a valuable addition to any H0m model railroad layout.
The prototype: Rhaetian Railway Xm 2/2 9916 tower railcar
The RhB put the Xm 2/2 9916 tower railcar into service in 1963 in order to be able to carry out maintenance work on the overhead lines on the Bernina line more efficiently. The vehicle was technically based on the Tm 2/2 56-67 (later 15-26) shunting tractors, which meant that it could be used not only on the Bernina line, but also on the main network and the Arosa line. Originally painted in oxide red, the vehicle was repainted several times over the years. Between 1988 and 1997, it was given an orange livery before it was finally given its now familiar yellow appearance.
Technical modifications were made on an ongoing basis, in particular to the roof superstructure and the rotating and extendable work platform. The vehicle was modernized in 1997 and 2002, whereby the safety standards of the working platform were improved. To this day, the Xm 2/2 9916 tower railcar remains an indispensable piece of equipment for the catenary service.
The Rhaetian Railway in eras II and III
The RhB continued to develop in eras II (1920-1945) and III (1945-1970). Technical innovations and a growing infrastructure required special vehicles for maintenance and repair work. The Xm 2/2 9916 tower railcar was one of these special developments and represented an important milestone in the modernization of the RhB.
Technical details of the model
The Bemo model is made in high-quality craftsmanship and consists of white metal and brass. The rotating and extendable working platform with movable railings enables realistic operational scenarios. Etched parts used in the roof superstructure ensure true-to-life detailing. Drive is via both axles, with a bell-shaped armature motor ensuring smooth and even running. The LED top lighting in white changes depending on the direction of travel and provides authentic illumination of the vehicle. A Next18 interface allows easy retrofitting of a digital decoder. In the digital version, the model is also equipped with a sound decoder that reproduces realistic driving and working noises.
Color scheme and design
The model is delivered in the classic oxide red paintwork, which corresponds to the condition of the original when it was put into service in 1963. The precise printing and fine details make the model a visual highlight and a perfect component of historical RhB scenarios.
Quality and driving characteristics
Bemo relies on the highest quality workmanship for this model. The combination of white metal and brass ensures high stability and durability. The precisely manufactured drive with bell-type armature motor guarantees excellent driving characteristics. Expansion options and accessories
The model is prepared for retrofitting a digital decoder and offers a simple option for digitization with the Next18 interface. A sound module can also be integrated to produce realistic operating sounds. Suitable accessories and add-on parts allow the model to be individually adapted to various application scenarios.
