Bemo 1286126 H0m Xm 2/2 9916 tower railcar, RhB, Era IV-V
The Bemo 1286126 H0m Xm 2/2 9916 tower railcar is a faithful reproduction of the historic working vehicle of the Rhaetian Railway (RhB). Specially developed for the catenary service on the Bernina line, this model reflects the technical and visual features of the original from eras IV and V. With its authentic orange paint scheme and functional details, this tower railcar is an ideal addition to any H0m model railroad layout.
The prototype: Rhaetian Railway Xm 2/2 9916 tower railcar
In 1963, the RhB put the Xm 2/2 9916 tower railcar into service in order to be able to efficiently carry out maintenance work on the overhead lines of the Bernina line. The vehicle was based on the design of the Tm 2/2 56-67 (later 15-26) shunting tractors, which meant that it could also be used on the main network and the Arosa line. Originally painted in oxide red, the tower railcar was given an orange livery between 1988 and 1997, before later receiving its current yellow livery. In the course of continuous further development, the roof superstructures in particular were optimized, while modernizations in 1997 and 2002 adapted the working platform to current safety standards.
The Rhaetian Railway in eras IV and V
Eras IV (1970-1990) and V (1990-2006) were characterized by numerous modernization measures and a steady expansion of the route network. During this time, many older vehicles were either decommissioned or extensively modernized. The Xm 2/2 9916 tower railcar was one of the vehicles that was continuously further developed in order to meet the increasing requirements of the catenary service.
Technical details of the model
The Bemo model impresses with its high-quality craftsmanship in white metal and brass. The rotating and extendable working platform with movable railings enables realistic recreations of maintenance work. Etched parts used in the roof superstructure ensure a high level of detail. Both axles are driven by a bell-type armature motor, which ensures smooth and even running. The LED tip lighting in white changes depending on the direction of travel and ensures an authentic light display. A Next18 interface makes it easy to retrofit a digital decoder. In the digital version, the model is also equipped with a sound decoder that reproduces realistic operating noises.
Color scheme and design
The model is painted in the characteristic orange color scheme that the prototype wore between 1988 and 1997. This color scheme reflects the operating conditions in the late 80s and 90s and gives the model an unmistakable appearance.
Quality and driving characteristics
Bemo places particular emphasis on the highest quality of workmanship for this model. The combination of white metal and brass gives the model a high level of stability and durability. The precisely manufactured drive with bell-shaped armature motor guarantees excellent driving characteristics. Thanks to its robust construction, the model is ideally suited for regular operation on H0m layouts.
Expansion options and accessories
The model is prepared for retrofitting a digital decoder and offers a simple option for digitization with the Next18 interface. A sound module can also be integrated to produce realistic operating sounds. Suitable accessories and add-on parts allow the model to be individually adapted to various application scenarios.
