In order to complete the program of standard locomotives, the Krupp company received the order in 1934 to initially build 2 locomotives of the 06 series. During the realization, the interest of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in the giant locomotives began to wane, so the locomotive of the 06 001 series was only delivered in March 1939, the 06 002 locomotive even in August 1939. At the end of 1940, a new painting regulation of the Deutsche Reichsbahn appeared, according to which the superstructures of the streamlined locomotives were no longer to be painted black but anthracite gray in the future.
