Brawa 43437 electric locomotive BR E44 der DR, Ep. III (digital, without sound) AC current/AC Product Details
About the prototype: The first E44 went on the road as an experimental locomotive in 1931. It was so convincing that it was the first type of electric locomotive in Germany, of which more than 100 units were built, 174 to be precise. This was mainly due to the technical innovations, e.g. running axles were dispensed with and the Tatzlager drive, which was successful for many years to come, was established. The locomotives were designed as universal locomotives for passenger and freight traffic and proved to be reliable and robust in both areas of operation. This is the main reason why the BR E44 continued to dominate the electrified networks in southern and central Germany until the 1980s.
In western Germany, the last E44, re-designated as the BR 144, performed its last scheduled service in 1983, whereby the locomotives were optimized for different tasks during their service life. Some were fitted with electric brakes and others were converted for push-pull operation. The locomotives in the Soviet zone initially went to the Soviet Union as a reparation payment. There, the locomotives were adapted to the track dimensions, which damaged their balance. In 1952, 46 locomotives were returned to the DR in poor condition. These were rebuilt to the correct track gauge and were even still in service until the summer of 1991. Some locomotives were still in service as heating locomotives after 1991, the 244 104 stationed in the Wismar depot was even renumbered 144 103 on January 1, 1992.
About the model: Brawa is dedicating a conversion in H0 scale to this iconic locomotive. This high-quality model has a very detailed running gear, with the frame and wheels made of metal. In addition, there are many applied details, such as the very delicate grab irons and the prototypical, multi-part roof equipment, with mechanically movable metal pantographs (no current pick-up possible). Driver's cab lighting, engine room lighting and period-appropriate lighting allow the locomotive to shine in all its glory. The model is already equipped with a digital decoder and prepared for the installation of a sound module.
