Brawa 47234 Schienenwagen Pae der CSD, Ep. III Product Details
About the prototype: When the DRG was founded, it took over a large number of rail cars based on the Prussian standard, so that with the low financial resources there was no possibility of procuring a successor type in larger quantities. Although a 4-axle rail car was considered when the replacement construction drawings were drawn up, it was only built in a very small quantity of 95 units. It was not until the advent of welding technology and the rearmament of the German Reich that the need for a new 4-axle rail car arose. Thus, several prototypes and series with numerous differences were built in quick succession. In 1934, SEAG delivered the first two experimental cars. They were made of St 52 and each had a removable brakeman's cab made of wood or steel. The subsequent deliveries up to 1939 were also made of St 52, had three cross members and seven pairs of stanchions. The brakeman's cab was removable. From 1941, a modified version was built. This was now made of the weaker St 37, which meant that a fourth cross member had to be provided. There were now eight pairs of stanchions on the sides. For vehicle transport, the brakeman's platform now only had a fold-down platform railing. At the request of the Wehrmacht, all older cars were also to be converted in this way. While the first deliveries still had a welded box bogie, almost all later deliveries were equipped with the pressed sheet bogie. In addition to the deliveries to the DR, the Wehrmacht also received cars and used them for military purposes, including in the trains of the mobile V2 ramps. A total of about 3,500 cars were still built by the end of the war. After 1945, the welded rail cars were distributed over half of Europe. From France, it is even known that they were equipped with new bogies. At the end of the war, the DB had about 1,400 cars in its inventory, the DR an estimated 500. Both railroad administrations used the cars for a long time and did not retire them until the 1980s. As late as 1979, the DB had over 1,000 of the cars designated as R 672 in service. The original cars were retired earlier by the DR, but the shortage of cars in the 1980s led to the last R 672s being bought from the DB. The DR designated them as Rkk [3811] and used them until the traffic collapse in 1990.
