Description

Brawa 47299 H0 Gedeckter Güterwagen Gos 245, DB, Ep.IV Product Details

About the model: The DB Gos 245 boxcar in 1:87 scale is an impressive representation of times gone by. Brawa authentically rounds off the model with close-coupling kinematics, an extra brake system and a narrow frame to scale.

About the prototype: Based on the UIC standard car Gmhs 53, the DB developed an approximately 2 m longer car, which otherwise also corresponded to the UIC specifications in all equipment features. In contrast to its predecessor, it already had the newly standardized 2 m wide loading door. The UIC was not yet able to agree on a larger standard design at this time; this only followed later in the form of the Glmms 61. The wagon designated Glm(e)hs 50 was therefore only slightly longer than the large G wagons of the pre-war period, which caused a great deal of controversy even at the time of construction. Even then, a wagon with a loading length of at least 12.5 m was required, so that the increase in loading space did not go far enough for many, while others were of the opinion that they had strayed too far from the UIC specifications. Despite all these circumstances, around 12,000 wagons were built between 1953 and 1958 - with wooden walls until 1954 and then with panel walls. Around a quarter of all wagons were fitted with a handbrake, initially still with the characteristic sheet metal brakeman's cab. At least 700 wagons were fitted with an electric heating cable so that they could run on express freight trains. Some wagons were leased out on a long-term basis and were given advertising signs for the relevant company. Until the mid-1970s, the wagons with wooden walls were phased out or fitted with panel walls. From 1965, the Glm(e)hs 50 were designated as Gbrs(-v) 245. In 1980, after the heating pipes had mostly been removed, the designation was changed to Gos(-uv) 245. In the 1980s, the stock began to be reduced, although larger numbers were sold to the DR. In 1997 there were still 35 coaches in the stock, the last three were taken out of service in 2000.
