Description

Brawa 49625 H0 Lightweight Tank Car, Uerdingen ZZ "Ölverein 12," DRG, Era II Product Details

49625 H0 Uerdingen ZZ "Ölverein 12" Lightweight Tank Car, DRG, Era II – Sophisticated tank car for military and industrial transport

The Uerdingen ZZ "Ölverein 12" lightweight tank car represents the engineering artistry of the pre-war era, when lightweight construction played a central role in vehicle manufacturing. Originally developed to support military logistics, this tank car also found widespread use in the civilian economy and was an important component of crude oil and fuel transport for decades.

Historical Development and Area of Use

In the immediate run-up to World War II, in 1939–40, two variants of four-axle tank cars were developed—one by the Cologne-Deutz Car Factory and one by the Uerdingen Car Factory. The Uerdingen version featured a self-supporting tank with additional longitudinal beams that increased stability. These cars had a capacity of 63 m³ and were used by Wifo (Wirtschaftliche Forschungsgesellschaft) as well as by various oil associations to ensure supplies for the Wehrmacht.

After the war ended, many of these cars remained scattered throughout Europe. Some of the vehicles were acquired by the newly founded VTG (Vereinigte Tanklager und Transportmittel GmbH), while others were leased on a long-term basis to various companies and railroads. Despite their military origins, they proved their worth in civilian service and some remained in operation well into the 1990s.

High-quality model replica for collectors and model railroading enthusiasts

The H0 model of the Uerdingen ZZ “Ölverein 12” lightweight tank car from Era II features numerous lovingly crafted details.
