Brawa 50107 Gedeckter Güterwagen Gmms "MC RIV" der DR, Ep. IV Product Details
About the model: The DR covered freight car GMMS "MC RIV" for Era IV is a prototypical model from the manufacturer BRAWA. The detailed wagon has been provided with numerous features that make the model a small special feature. In addition to a period-appropriate appearance with brown paintwork and the finest printing, the car impresses with metal wheels, a multi-part brake system, brake shoes at wheel level and individually attached grab rails. In addition, the model has already been given the road number "21 50 120 0091-9".
About the prototype: The international railroad association (Union internationale des chemins de fer, UIC) founded its own research and development institute (ORE) in 1949 and thus laid the foundation for internationally valid construction principles for freight cars. The European railroad administrations soon developed their own vehicles on the basis of the ORE's designs and principles for a standard two-axle freight wagon. In accordance with the basic idea of the UIC, these could be used within the territories of the member administrations for the transportation of goods and freight. The Deutsche Bundesbahn made a start with the first 3,500 wagons (according to the preliminary designs) and was able to put the first 2,662 genuine UIC standard wagons into service as early as 1957 with the Gmm(e)hs 56. Externally, the standardized design was identified by the inscription RIV St UIC. Other railroad administrations such as the SNCF, FS, ÖBB, NS, DSB, MAV, P.K.P., CFL and SBB acted in a similar way and produced their own versions of the UIC standard wagons. As a result, the wagons are all very similar, but there are always country-specific design differences. As the DB itself had a very great need for new wagons and there was also a modernization backlog for older wagon types, there was not only a complete new construction of UIC St wagons. The Gmms 44, Gmm(eh)s 60, Gmms 40 and 216 wagon types were gradually created in several conversion programs in which individual parts of older wagons were reused. From the 1960s to the 1990s, these wagon types were characteristic of freight transport in Europe and, with over 100,000 units built, were included in almost every freight train.
