Description

Brawa 50311 Staubbehälterwagen KKds 55 der DB, Ep. III Product Details

BRAWA is offering an H0 model of the DB's KKds 55 dust hopper car, road number 358 014, from Era III. The model, which is appropriate for the era, has a prototypical open design, brake shoes at wheel level, individually applied steps and steps, and close coupler kinematics according to the NEM standard.

Prototype information: After the EKW 49s were converted to the KKd 49s, the German Federal Railroad quickly got to work on completely new development of its own dust cars. The knowledge gained from the conversion and operation of the KKd 49 was immediately incorporated into the new design. The result was the KKds 55 wagon design, which was intended for transporting alumina. The vehicle frame rested on two bogies of type 931 Minden-Dorstfeld. Since the basic structure of the dust containers is included in the load-bearing structure of the wagon, the wagons do not require any internal longitudinal members. This, in turn, had the advantage that the hopper bottoms could be pulled down far above the track. The four equally sized silo containers, had an emptying device with a loosening floor in each container. Compressed air was used to transport the load out of the bins. The small series (only 24 units) ordered from the Talbot wagon factory were delivered to the DB starting in 1954. In addition to transporting alumina, the cars were also used for aluminum oxide, among other things. In addition, they were also rented out as private cars to appropriate companies. The small total number of units was the reason why all wagons were taken out of service by 1998.
