Description

Brawa 50361 Milchwagen Gh, DR Brit-US-Zone, Ep.II Product Details

About the model: The DR Brit-US-Zone Gh milk wagon impresses with its precise reproduction of the board joints and many extra details that give the model a realistic and authentic appearance. The model also has die-cast zinc spoked wheels and close-coupling kinematics. All of this is rounded off with precise printing on a prototypical paint scheme.

About the prototype: The Royal Bavarian State Railroad procured two-axle cars from the Augsburg Machine Factory in Nuremberg for milk traffic and especially for transporting milk cans. The cars had a riveted underframe with truss axle holders and a 4.50 m wheelbase. They were fitted with a Westinghouse type air brake for use in passenger trains. The coaches had Growe ventilators on the roof and ventilation slots in the walls at the front to ensure optimum ventilation of the loading space. The light-colored paint ensured that the temperatures inside were kept within limits in summer. The wagons had two opposing sliding doors on each side so that loading work could be completed as quickly as possible during the short stops. In order to collect the milk cans from the Bavarian dairy farmers, who brought their produce to the nearest station by wagon, the wagons were used in scheduled passenger trains. This made it possible to transport the perishable milk to the dairies in the city as quickly as possible at the time.
