Brawa 50586 Schwerlastwagen Uaai672.9 der DB AG, Ep. V Product Details
About the model: The Uaai672.9 heavy freight car is a Deutsche Bahn AG model and is from Era V. The many other details about this beautiful model can be found under the features.
About the prototype: Large and heavy loads require special means of transportation or cars. In 1928, the Rheinisch Westfälische Elektrizitätswerk A.-G. Essen (RWE) placed an order with Maschinenfabrik Augsburg Nürnberg (MAN) for the construction of two new carrying beak cars. This was the only way to transport the constantly growing number of transformers for the transformer stations. These were included in the list of wagons for exceptional transports in the Deutsche Reichsbahn's wagon fleet under sketch 125, and the wagons' maximum payload of 168 tons was distributed over 18 axles. One four-axle and one five-axle bogie each carried a bridge, on which a carrying beak was supported. The carrying beaks were the characteristic riveted truss constructions. Unloaded, the two carrying beaks were coupled with bolts, so that even the empty carrying beak wagon had a considerable length of 27.525 m over buffers. The dead weight was 97.2 tons. For loading, the two halves were pulled apart and a self-supporting transformer was suspended between the carrying beaks or an 8.40 m long trussed support frame. As private vehicles ([P] cars), the cars were initially employed by the Deutsche Reichbahn (company) and later by the Bundesbahn and were initially based at the K.B.E. Cologne Kendenich station. Two further SSt 125s were also built by MAN in 1940 and belonged to Preußen Elektra Hannover and Elektrowerke A.-G. Berlin. The latter remained with the Deutsche Reichsbahn in the USSR zone after the war and was later transferred to the DR. Due to the dimensions of the special freight, which often exceeded the vehicle limits, the loaded wagons were only allowed to run as exceptional transports with a maximum permissible speed of 40 km/h. In the case of narrow bridges, the wagons were even only allowed to run in steps. In the case of narrow bridges, they were even only allowed to travel at walking speed and under observation. For this reason, such journeys were mainly carried out during the off-peak hours. Unloaded wagons were allowed to travel at 65 km/h at the end of regular freight trains. At that time, this was the usual maximum speed for regular freight trains. At DB, the maximum speed was increased to 80 km/h when roller bearings were installed. The wagon 84 80 995 8 001-3, last located in Dortmund Hbf, was handed over to the Bahnwelt Darmstadt Kranichstein as a museum exhibit by RWE Rhein-Ruhr Netzservice GmbH in 2011.
