Description

Brawa 50588 Staubbehälterwagen Ucs909 "Brandt" der DB, Ep. IV Product Details

BRAWA presents a detailed model of the DB Era IV Ucs909 "Brandt" dust container car. The H0 model in its prototypical paint scheme and printing has individually applied steps and treads, brake shoes at wheel level, and close coupler kinematics. The car also has the road number "41 80 910 7 557-6".

Prototype information: The German Federal Railroad (DB) developed a new 2-axle dust container car with two upright containers together with the Waggonunion. Westwagon delivered the first ten cars to the DB for testing in 1953. Since they still had a Hik braking system, these were designated Kd 54. In addition, like the following 150 cars that came from Talbot and Westwaggon, they had a double-hook running gear. Since this caused problems in conjunction with the very special underframe design, all subsequent deliveries received running gear with single hooks. After just 50 cars, the container volume was increased to 2 x 13.5 m³. The cars proved themselves very well, so that by 1965 a total of 1232 Kds 54 had been procured. For lighter dust loads, 1293 Kds 56 cars with 2 x 17.5 m³ hoppers were built in parallel. Due to the 4 m³ larger containers, these cars were correspondingly higher. To secure parked cars, some of the Kds 54/56 had a platform-operated hand brake. In contrast to the other new DB freight cars, where the hand brake platform was bolted to the underframe, it was directly integrated here. As a result, the length over buffers (LüP) of the cars equipped in this way remained unchanged and only the dead weight increased. Measured against the total number of over 2,500 cars built, equipment with hand brakes was relatively rare on the Kds 54/56. With the introduction of the 12-digit UIC number, the Kds 54 were re-designated as Ucs 908. Both types formed the backbone of the DB's dust freight cars for many years. The first retirements occurred in 1967 when 86 cars were sold. Further sales to EVA and VTG followed in later years. In the 1990s, DB AG transferred most of its cars to its subsidiary MEG. The remaining DB AG wagons were mostly rented out or used, for example, for the internal transport of brake sand for traction units. In addition to cement, the cars also transported various other powdery goods over the years. Known here are, among others: Stone powder, quartz sand, kieserite, gypsum, sodium sulfate, Thomass sulfate, sugar, salt, aluminum hydroxide. The wagons were then usually permanently located at a station.
