Description

Brawa 50727 Gedeckter Güterwagen Gmds 'EUROP', ÖBB, Ep.III Product Details

About the model: The ÖBB Gmds boxcar is from Era III and shines with a detailed look and selected features such as extra steps and grab irons as well as brake shoes at wheel level. The model has a length of 115 mm and has been given the road number "151 543".

About the prototype: The German State Railroad was constantly trying to expand and renew its vehicle fleet. The Gm(h)s Bremen can therefore be seen as the successor to the Gms Oppeln. In line with the state of the art, the Gm(h)s Bremen were manufactured in welded construction from 1943 and were given an extremely long wheelbase of 7 m in order to achieve the desired smooth running of the vehicles. In addition, 260 mm high long beams were used for the first time, but these were lighter in design and saved around 25% of the costs compared to the predecessor design, the Gms Oppeln. The exact number of wagons delivered by the end of the war is not known. However, based on existing stock lists, it can be assumed that at least 7,230 units remained with various state railroads. The main administration of the Reichsbahn in the British-US zone had the production of Gm(h)s 35 resumed in 1949 with new orders, as the numerous war losses meant that new freight wagons were needed quickly to cope with the increasing transport volumes. There were minor design changes compared to the original design. The most noticeable were certainly the now vertical strut on the loading door and the omission of the diagonal braces at the front. By the end of 1950, 5,925 more Gm(h)s had been added to the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) fleet. The Deutsche Reichsbahn in the Soviet zone resumed production at the end of 1945 and classified them as Gmhs 11. The Reichsbahn thus had a total stock of approx. 800 wagons of this type. The majority of the wagons were modernized in the Magdeburg RAW from 1967. The wagons were fitted with UIC loading and ventilation sliders, the upper third of the side walls were plated, fitted with sheet metal roofs and converted to wheelsets with roller bearings.
