Description

Brawa 50788 Güterwagen G 10 "Westfalia", DB, Ep. III Product Details

About the prototype: Tariff conditions on the one hand and technical conditions on the other led to all state railway administrations developing covered freight wagons with almost the same dimensions and load weights. These were wagons with a wheelbase of 4.5 m, a length over buffers of 9.3 m for unbraked wagons, a load weight of 15 t, later 17.5 t and a floor area of around 21 square meters. This type of freight wagon became the most important and most frequently built covered freight wagon of all, originally bearing the generic mark Gm. The most widely used of these state railway wagons was the Prussian model IId8, of which 47,533 were built. After the founding of the German State Railway Wagon Association DWV in 1909, the association wagon type A2 was developed from this. This was built from 1911 onwards in an incredible total of 121,770 units. This made it the most frequently built covered freight wagon in the world. It dominated the German freight train scene until the early years of Era 3. Through two world wars, these wagons were scattered all over Europe; there was no European railroad administration that did not use such wagons at least occasionally.
