Between 1957 and 1966, Friedrich Krupp Maschinenfabriken AG produced a total of 15 of these type St 309a low-loader wagons. Due to their compact design, the wagons did not have air brakes and could only be secured using a hand brake. The last six units were only taken out of service by DB AG in 2004.
