Brawa 51005 H0 Telescopic hood wagon Shimmns, DB, Ep.IV- Due to the rolling process during production, coiled sheet steel rolls (coils) are sensitive to moisture. To enable these coils to be transported to the processing industry without corrosion damage, the vehicle industry developed a special design flat wagon in the 1970s with three interlocking hoods, the Shis 708, from 1987 Shimmns 708. For easy loading with coils, the hoods can be moved as required and release the five loading recesses embedded in the vehicle frame. The Deutsche Bundesbahn ordered over 2,500 Shis / Shimmns 708 in two large batches, but the actual number of vehicles of this type built is significantly higher due to further orders from other state railroads and rental companies. As the hoods became more maintenance-intensive with increasing age, DB AG had the hoods of 1,000 wagons replaced with sliding tarpaulins from 2002 and reclassified these vehicles as Shimmns-ttu 772. However, private operators still use vehicles in their original condition.
