Description

Brawa 51150 H0 Ibes Refrigerated Car, SNCF, Era IV Product Details

Brawa 51150 H0 Ibes Refrigerated Car, SNCF, Era IV – A French Classic of International Refrigerated Freight Transport

Are you looking for a typical European refrigerated car for your Era IV freight trains? The Brawa 51150 Ibes from the French national railway SNCF is a highly detailed model of the legendary UIC Standard 1 refrigerated car—widely used, robust, and in service throughout Europe. Perfect for international transport of meat, dairy products, or frozen goods.

Finely detailed model for international use

The car measures 135 mm over buffers and is equipped with NEM-compliant close-coupling mechanism. Bogies with three-point mounting, metal axle bearings, wheel sets with center-mounted bearings, multi-part brake system, and brake shoes at wheel level ensure high fidelity to the prototype. Separately applied handrails and the finely executed paint scheme visually round out the model. Road number: 11 87 082 7 061-6 [P].

The Prototype – The UIC Standard 1 Refrigerator Car

In the 1960s and 1970s, over 6,500 refrigerated cars were built to the UIC Standard 1—used by nearly all major European national railways. They dominated food transport across Europe. The SNCF, in particular, used these cars for domestic and cross-border transport. The cars featured ice chambers that were loaded with ice blocks via the end platforms—a common practice at the time.

Refrigerated freight logistics, French style

Whether for meat, fish, dairy products, or beer—Ibes refrigerated cars were an integral part of SNCF freight trains. Whether as privately owned cars or as part of the Interfrigo pool, they could be deployed throughout Europe—and were regularly seen on trains operated by DB, SBB, ÖBB, or SNCB.

Ideal for international train formations of Era IV

Can be combined with other refrigerated cars, covered freight cars, or Interfrigo vehicles. Particularly well-suited for use with SNCF steam or electric locomotives, as well as French freight yards, food processing plants, and distribution centers from the 1970s.

A must-have for international model railroading enthusiasts with an eye for detail

With the Brawa 51150, you can bring a piece of European transportation history to your layout—neatly crafted, technically sophisticated, and featuring a quintessentially French appearance.
