Brawa 51273 H0 Heavy Load Car SSt125 "RWE", DRG, Ep. II - Perfect Load Solution for Large Transports
The SSt125 "RWE" heavy-duty wagon is an impressive model for transporting large and heavy loads. With its detailed replica of the carrying beak wagon, this H0 model demonstrates the engineering skills of the 1920s. The wagon was specially designed to meet the increasing requirements for transporting massive transformers and other large equipment. Its robust construction and flexible use make it a highlight on any model railway layout.
The role model: The development of the carrier beak wagon for exceptional transportation
In 1928, the Rheinisch Westfälische Elektrizitätswerk A.-G. (RWE) placed an order with the Maschinenfabrik Augsburg Nürnberg (MAN) to build two new carrying beak wagons. These vehicles were to transport the constantly growing number of transformers efficiently. The maximum payload was an impressive 168 tons, spread over 18 axles. The carrying beaks, which carried the load, were riveted truss constructions that gave the wagon its characteristic appearance.
The empty carrying beak wagon reached an impressive length of 27.5 meters over buffers and weighed 97.2 tons. For transport, the two carrying beaks were pulled apart in order to attach the self-supporting transformer or an 8.4-metre-long lattice framework. Due to the special dimensions and weights of the transported freight, these wagons were classified as "exceptional transports". The journeys usually took place during off-peak hours so as not to disrupt regular rail operations.
Efficient and safe: the special technical features of the heavy-duty wagon
The heavy-duty wagons were initially stationed at the Deutsche Reichsbahn Gesellschaft (DRG) in Cologne and were later also used by the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB). When unloaded, the wagons could be carried at a speed of 65 km/h at the rear of a freight train. After the installation of roller bearings, the maximum speed at DB was even increased to 80 km/h. Thanks to their adaptability and robustness, these heavy-duty wagons met all requirements and became an indispensable part of freight transport.
The model: Perfect replica for every model railroad layout
The Brawa model of the SSt125 "RWE" heavy-duty wagon impresses with its precise attention to detail. The multi-part trussed carrying beaks, the four bogies with 18 axles and the detailed vehicle frame make the model a real eye-catcher. The wagon can be used both with and without a transformer, allowing various loading scenarios to be depicted. The close coupling kinematics in accordance with the NEM standard guarantee problem-free use in model operation.
Particularly impressive is the mobility of the transformer, which swivels in sharply on curves and thus ensures a realistic reproduction of the operating sequence. The model is designed for alternating current and offers optimum running characteristics on all suitable track systems.
Application on the model railroad layout
The SSt125 heavy goods wagon is ideal for use in historical freight trains of Era II. With its exceptional length and precise design, it is the perfect highlight for scenarios that focus on exceptional transportation and technical masterpieces.
