Description

Brawa 51344 H0 Type A3 Bogie Flat Car, SNCB, Era III Product Details

Brawa 51344 H0 Type A3 Bogie Flat Car, SNCB, Era III – Historic Heavy-Duty Flat Car from Belgium

Are you looking for an authentic flat car for heavy loads and international transport in Era III? The Brawa 51344 Type A3 bogie flat car from the Belgian national railway SNCB brings a piece of railroad history to your layout—finely detailed, sturdy, and typical of freight transport from the 1950s through the 1970s.

Highly detailed model featuring metal components

The model features a die-cast zinc car floor, finely detailed undercarriage, brake shoes flush with the wheel face, and metal wheel sets. The short-coupling mechanism compliant with the NEM standard ensures smooth operation. Separately attached steps, handrails, axle brake linkages, and axle bearing caps underscore the model’s high-quality overall appearance. The car stanchions are plug-in and are included separately with the model—cargo is not included, allowing for custom loading scenarios.

The prototype—an internationally used rail car for heavy loads

As early as 1910, the K.P.E.V., in collaboration with the DRG, developed rail cars based on design sheet Ce 168, which were designed for a loading length of 18 m and a load capacity of 35 t. After World War I, numerous cars were sent abroad as reparations—including to the SNCB in Belgium. There, they continued to be used in heavy freight transport—often in the steel, lumber, or machinery industries.

A Piece of European Railway History

The SNCB Type A3 flat car represents an international history of rail vehicles that spanned into the 1970s. Its robust construction, featuring a delicate truss and a simple, open design, makes it universally versatile—a classic in heavy general-cargo transport.

Perfect for international freight trains from the 1950s through the 1970s

Ideal for pairing with German, French, or Belgian locomotives, the car fits perfectly into international train formations with open or covered freight cars. It pairs particularly well with cargo such as steel beams, logs, or heavy machinery.

A versatile classic with a realistic look

With the Brawa 51344, you’re getting a historically accurate model for international Era III operating scenarios—technically impressive, visually striking, and perfect for custom loading.
