Brawa 51347 H0 Covered Freight Car Glr, DRG, Era II Product Details
Brawa 51347 H0 Covered Freight Car Glr, DRG, Era II – Pre-war large-capacity car in exquisite detail
Would you like to expand your Era II layout with an authentic vehicle from the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft? The Brawa 51347 Glr features the classic design of a large-capacity freight car built using the interchangeable-part construction method—robust, elegantly designed, and an integral part of freight transport in the 1930s.
Exquisite detailing for the highest standards
The car measures 139 mm over buffers and is equipped with NEM-compliant close-coupling kinematics. Realistic details include embossed sheet-metal axle holders, separately attached spring assemblies, brake changers, and delicately reproduced wheel bearings. The prototype-accurate underbody and internally profiled wheel sets underscore the high quality standards of this model with the road number 80 294.
The Prototype – High-Capacity Freight Car Based on the Interchangeable Design Principle
With the founding of the DRG, the most important types of freight cars were redesigned. The Glr incorporated many features of the association-standard large-capacity cars: a high cargo compartment for light, bulky goods, two-meter-wide doors that open to the right, as well as a riveted truss frame and a barrel-vaulted roof. The well-thought-out design allowed for use in both freight and, later, passenger train service.
A car with an exceptionally long service life
The Glr cars were in service for decades—not only with the DRG, but also after 1945 with the DB, DR, and other European rail companies. Their durable construction proved its worth even under difficult operating conditions—many cars remained in service well into the 1980s.
Perfect for Era II historic trains
The Glr is ideal for freight trains from the late 1920s through the 1940s—whether as a single car, part of a transfer train, or in combination with other covered G-cars. It pairs particularly well with Class 38, 55, or 86 steam locomotives.
An authentic piece of Reichsbahn freight transport
The Brawa 51347 brings a piece of German railway history to the model railroad—with the utmost precision and attention to detail. A must-have for anyone dedicated to authentic Era II operations.
