Description

Brawa 51349 H0 Covered Freight Car, Glr, DR, Era IV Product Details

Brawa 51349 H0 Covered Freight Car Glr, DR, Era IV – A Sturdy Classic for High-Volume Freight

Are you looking for a historic freight car that embodies the transition from the pre-war era through the 1980s? The Brawa 51349 Glr from the Deutsche Reichsbahn is a richly detailed replica of a covered large-capacity freight car with a long service history and a wide range of applications—a must-have for all fans of Era IV and classic DR logistics.

Technically well-designed, finely crafted

With a length over buffers of 139 mm and NEM-compliant close-coupling mechanism, the car is ideal for realistic model railroading. The model stands out with embossed sheet-metal axle holders, separately attached spring assemblies, brake control levers, and a delicate reproduction of the wheel bearings. The underbody has also been faithfully reproduced. The internal-profile wheels provide additional visual depth and precision.

The Prototype – A Proven Freight Car with High Payload Capacity for Light Cargo

Originally from the “Dresden” class, the DR’s Glr was primarily used to transport bulky but lightweight cargo such as glass or packaging materials. Its development traces back to the DRG’s interchangeable-part cars, whose manufacturing tolerances allowed for the rapid replacement of components for the first time. Many of these cars survived World War II and remained in service with European railroads well into the 1980s—including with the DR in East Germany.

Typical DR: a robust freight car in a proven design

With the road number 21 50 118 0152-3, the model features the typical DR lettering of Era IV. Whether in general freight service, in express freight service with passenger trains, or as part of a local freight train—this car was a true all-rounder on the railways of the GDR.

Perfect for DR train scenarios from the 1970s and 1980s

The Glr combines excellently with other covered freight cars, open cars, or special-purpose cars from the DR. It looks particularly authentic in a train formation with BR 110, 106, or 118 locomotives—on branch lines as well as on mainline operations.

A piece of railroad history on your layout

The Brawa 51349 is a highly detailed model with a clear historical reference—ideal for collectors, DR enthusiasts, and model railroaders who want to recreate realistic Era IV operations.
