Brawa 58271 H0 express train car Bm 235, DB, Ep. IV, AC-Innenbeleuchtung Product Details

Brawa 58271 H0 Bm 235 Express Coach, DB, Era IV – AC model with LED interior lighting

Are you looking for a true-to-scale express train car for your AC layout that authentically recreates the InterCity era of the Deutsche Bundesbahn?

With the Brawa 58271 H0 Bm 235 Express Coach, you can add a high-quality, detailed model of a second-class passenger car from Era IV InterCity service to your model railroad layout. This car is specially designed for the 3-wire AC system and features integrated LED interior lighting. With its authentic look in ocean blue and beige and the road number 51 80 22-90 488-3, this model is the ideal addition to classic InterCity trains on Märklin layouts and all other AC systems.

Brawa – Model train quality for the highest standards

The Brawa brand is known for its exceptionally detailed models, which perfectly combine scale accuracy, technical sophistication, and prototypical design. The Bm 235 features a multitude of separately applied components, finely engraved surfaces, and authentic lettering. The 58271 is the AC version of this model—ideal for all AC model railroaders looking for a stylish, high-quality vehicle for their InterCity train.

Technical and Historical Background of the Bm 235

The Bm 235 model was developed in response to the Deutsche Bundesbahn’s InterCity ’79 program, which aimed to revolutionize long-distance rail travel under the motto “Every hour, every class.” Instead of developing new cars, it was decided to convert existing Bm 234 -type vehicles:

  • Installation of disc-braked wheel sets of the 093 type
  • Addition of magnetic rail brakes
  • Adjustment of the bogie suspension with lateral sway dampers

From 1979 to 1982, a total of 721 cars were converted in this manner and received the new designation Bm 235. In the characteristic ocean blue and beige color scheme of Era IV, they were used in IC service, and later also in InterRegio service—right up into the 2000s. Some cars were even repainted in IC and ICE colors and continued in service.

Model features of the Brawa 58271 – Perfect for AC service

The Brawa 58271 offers a wide range of features that are impressive both technically and visually:

  • Scale-accurate windows with clear glazing
  • LED interior lighting already installed – ideal for night operation
  • Spring-loaded rubber bead transitions for realistic train connections
  • Separately attached components such as the generator, handrails, and steps
  • Disc-braked wheel sets based on Type 093
  • Detailed interior with Era IV layout
  • Roof in butt-welded design corresponding to the prototype

For optimal operation on Märklin or other 3-wire layouts, the model is specifically designed for alternating current (AC). With the NEM coupler shaft and close-coupling kinematics, the car can be realistically integrated into train formations. In addition, it is compatible with the electric coupler from the BRAWA range.

A solderable interface allows for retrofitting with digital technology if needed—ensuring the car can be easily integrated during a future digital conversion.

Why the Brawa 58271 is the ideal choice for AC model railroading

With the Brawa 58271 Bm 235 express train car, you’re choosing an excellently crafted H0 model that authentically reflects DB’s InterCity train service in Era IV. Thanks to the built-in LED interior lighting, the car is ready to run right out of the box and creates an atmospheric nighttime experience. The AC version makes it the perfect addition to Märklin systems and for all model railroading enthusiasts who use alternating current.

The car can be ideally combined with other Bm 235 or Bm 234 models and is suitable for both classic InterCity trains and mixed passenger trains. The intricate detailing, realistic running characteristics, and true-to-prototype color scheme make this model an indispensable part of any Era IV layout.
