Minsk Tractor Works (Minski Traktorny Zavod), founded on May 29, 1946, produced agricultural and forestry vehicles in Belarus. The main product "Belarus" was exported to more than 60 countries and was a best seller. The very robust all-purpose farm tractor type MTS 50 was produced from 1961 and reached a top speed of 23 km/h with its 55 hp engine and was mainly imported to the GDR. Three years after the start of series production of the MTS 50, the all-wheel drive version MTS 52 followed.
