Märklin 37983 H0 Dampflok 2-8-4 Berkshire, SP, Ep. III, AC-MFX-Sound Product Details

Märklin 37983 H0 Steam Locomotive 2-8-4 "Berkshire" Southern Pacific 3505, Ep. III - Powerful US Steam Locomotive with mfx+ Sound

Are you looking for an impressive US steam locomotive for your H0 layout that combines technology, history, and impressive sound functions? The Märklin 37983 Southern Pacific type 2-8-4 "Berkshire" steam locomotive is an unusual model of a legendary American locomotive - equipped with the latest digital technology and numerous functions.

The "Berkshires" are among the most famous steam locomotives in North America. They were created in the 1920s as a powerful response to the increasing transportation requirements of the railroads. With their so-called super-power design, they offered significantly more power than earlier designs and shaped freight transportation in the USA for decades.

Historical model of the Southern Pacific

The prototype for this locomotive is a Southern Pacific 2-8-4 "Berkshire" steam locomotive with the road number 3505. The deep black color scheme and the solid construction reflect the typical appearance of American freight locomotives of the post-war period.

With outputs of up to 4000 hp and speeds of over 100 km/h, these locomotives were among the most powerful steam locomotives of their time. Development began in 1925 at the LIMA Locomotive Works and led to one of the most famous steam locomotive families in the USA.

Completely new construction with many details

The model is a completely new design with a particularly delicate metal construction. The locomotive and tender are largely made of metal and feature numerous separately applied details. Attention has also been paid to a high level of detail in the driver's cab - including a seated driver and stoker figure.

Pipes for the area below the driver's cab are included as separately attachable parts for additional authenticity.

Powerful drive and modern digital technology

The locomotive is equipped with an mfx+ digital decoder and offers extensive light and sound functions. A controlled high-performance drive with flywheel mass is located in the boiler. Four axles are driven, three of which are connected via coupling rods. Traction tires provide improved tractive power.

The smoke insert fitted as standard generates a speed-dependent, dynamic smoke output that can be controlled digitally. The front lighting changes depending on the direction of travel and includes one lamp each on the locomotive and tender. In addition, driver's cab lighting, number plate lighting and the firebox flickering can be activated separately digitally.

Realistic lighting and stable power supply

The lighting is provided by maintenance-free warm white and red LEDs. An integrated buffer memory supports the power supply and bridges short power outages so that operation remains particularly reliable.

An adjustable close coupler with kinematics is installed between the locomotive and tender, while the tender also has a kinematics-guided close coupler with NEM shaft. The overall length of the model is approx. 31.3 cm.

A highlight for collectors and US railroad enthusiasts

The Märklin 37983 Southern Pacific Berkshire is an impressive model for fans of American railroads. The combination of solid metal construction, the latest digital technology and realistic smoke and sound effects make this locomotive a special highlight on any H0 layout.

Get this extraordinary model of a legendary US steam locomotive and experience American freight traffic on a scale of 1:87.
