Would you like to complete your American freight train in H0 scale in a prototypical manner? The Märklin 45707 Southern Pacific "Caboose" freight train end car is the perfect addition for typical Era III US freight trains and gives your train consist an authentic appearance.
Cabooses were an indispensable part of North American freight trains for many decades. They were used at the end of the train and served as a workplace and lounge for the train crew. From here, train attendants could monitor the train, control braking processes and coordinate operations.
Prototype: Southern Pacific caboose
The prototype for this model is a Southern Pacific Railroad freight train caboose in maroon paint scheme. A characteristic feature is the centrally located roof pulpit, which gave the train crew a better view of the entire train.
The operating condition depicted corresponds approximately to the year 1948, a time when such cars were still part of the everyday picture of American freight trains.
Detailed model realization
The wagon has a sturdy metal frame and floor and impresses with its many finely executed details. Detailed bogies with special wheel sets ensure good running characteristics.
Numerous components are attached separately, including roof walkways, access ladders, the brake system and other intricate details. The end platforms are also equipped with hand brakes on both sides and contribute to the realistic representation.
Technical equipment
The car is designed for the Märklin 3L alternating current system (AC). The couplers are interchangeable and are mounted in a NEM coupler pocket with close coupler kinematics.
The length over the couplers is about 14.2 cm. E320552 (NEM) or E320389 (RP25) DC wheel sets can be used as an option.
