Description

Märklin 88070 Z electric locomotive E 60, DB, Ep. III Product Details

Märklin 88070 Electric Locomotive E 60: Purple Red Shunting Classic of the DB in Era III

The Märklin electric locomotive E 60 (item number 88070) is a detailed reproduction of the compact and sturdy switching locomotive of the German Federal Railroad (DB). With its purple-red paint scheme and the characteristic shunting platforms, this model perfectly reflects the aesthetics and functionality of Era III.

The prototype: E 60 of the German Federal Railroad

The E 60 series was originally developed in the 1920s and 1930s for heavy shunting operations. Thanks to its compact design and robust construction, it could also be used on cramped track systems. In Era III, these locomotives wore the characteristic purple-red livery of the German Federal Railroad. Three examples of the E 60 have been preserved to this day and are on display in cooperation with Märklin at the Bahnwelt Darmstadt-Kranichstein, the DB Museum Koblenz and the Auto & Technik Museum Sinsheim.

Detailed and high-quality realization

The model of the E 60 is a completely new design and impresses with numerous details and modern technology. The running gear is made of metal, while the body is made of high-quality plastic. Numerous attached parts and enlarged buffer plates underline the high level of detail. The bell-shaped armature motor drives two driving axles via gear wheels, while a dummy shaft and the third axle are also driven via a coupling rod. The LED lighting provides a triple head signal that changes depending on the direction of travel, and cab lighting provides additional authenticity. With a length over buffers of 50.5 mm, the locomotive is ideal for shunting operations on Z-gauge layouts.

Possible combinations and use

The E 60 is ideal for use in heavy shunting service or for short routes on Era III layouts. With its compact design and modern technical features, it is an eye-catcher on any Z-gauge layout.

Conclusion: A classic with modern technology

The Märklin 88070 electric locomotive E 60 impresses with its precise detailing, sturdy construction and state-of-the-art technology. It is an indispensable model for collectors and model railroaders who want to recreate the historic shunting operations of Era III.
