Märklin 88280 Z Aussichtstriebwagen „Gläserner Zug“ BR 491, DB, Ep. IV Product Details
Panorama on rails - Märklin Z observation railcar "Transparent train" class 491
With the Märklin 88280 you can bring the legendary "Glass Train" on a scale of 1:220 to your Z-gauge layout. The German Federal Railroad class 491 electrically powered observation rail car offers an unmistakable appearance with its striking design and its high proportion of panorama windows - now as a completely new development with the highest level of detail.
The prototype - The DB Transparent Train
The BR 491 was built for exclusive excursions through particularly interesting sections of track. With large, continuous window areas and a stylish color scheme in white aluminum/olympia blue, it was in service from the mid-1970s - for example through the foothills of the Alps or along the Moselle. The condition shown here corresponds to the operating year 1977, including double lamps, scissor and single-arm pantographs and aerial equipment.
Model - Compact, luxurious and filigree
The model is a completely new construction with running gear and body made of metal-plastic composite for optimum running characteristics and sharpness of detail. The interior with seats and driver's cab is visible through the full-length panoramic windows. One bogie is powered by a quiet, powerful bell-type armature motor.
Lighting & technology
The headlights are dependent on the direction of travel and consist of warm white LEDs (3x at the front) and red marker lights (2x at the rear). The lighting is maintenance-free and emphasizes the elegant appearance of the railcar - even in night operation. The railcar has a minimum radius of 195 mm and is therefore suitable for all standard Z-gauge layouts.
