In 1956, the Deutsche Reichsbahn began to develop diesel locomotives to replace the ever-aging
class IV K steam locomotives. However, the V36 4801 and V36 4802
locomotives delivered in 19601 6l were a failure in terms of design and too heavy for use. The two
prototype locomotives were scrapped by 1965. Our model is the exact replica of the V36
4802 as it was put into service in 1961.
