Piko 21002 H0 Class E410 DB Era III electric locomotive with sound - The legendary Europa locomotive
The Piko 21002 H0 Class E410 electric locomotive is an impressive model that brings the multi-system locomotive of the German Federal Railroad (DB) known as the European locomotive to your H0 layout. This locomotive, which operated across borders between Germany, France, Belgium and Luxembourg, marked a milestone in railroad history. Piko has created a worthy monument to this iconic locomotive with state-of-the-art technology and a detailed replica.
The prototype of the Piko BR E410 electric locomotive
The E410 series, later known as the BR 184, was developed at the end of the 1960s to avoid the time-consuming change of locomotives at the borders of Europe. Equipped with the ability to run under the different overhead line voltages in Germany, France, Belgium and Luxembourg, the Europa locomotive was a pioneer of cross-border rail transportation.
Initially, the locomotives were used on the Cologne-Liège route, later joined by connections between Trier, Luxembourg and France as well as journeys in Saarland and the Palatinate. Two of the five locomotives built are now preserved in museums and can be viewed at the DB Museum Koblenz-Lützel and the German Museum of Technology in Berlin.
