With the Piko 21797, PIKO presents a modern print version of the class 187 electric locomotive in the authentic design of the Belgian state railroad SNCB. This novelty 2026 shows the BR 187 - a further development of the Traxx platform - in the current design of Era VI and offers an ideal basis for international freight and passenger transport on the H0 model railway scale.

The model combines modern locomotive design with proven technology and is designed for direct current operation. Thanks to the PluX22 interface, the locomotive is prepared for easy retrofitting of a sound decoder - including space for a large-format loudspeaker. This model is therefore aimed at model railroaders who want to use modern locomotives in a realistic design on their layout.

Technology & digital preparation

The locomotive has a digital interface in accordance with NEM 658 (PluX22) and is therefore ideally prepared for the subsequent installation of a sound decoder - e.g. PIKO sound decoder #56545. The robust construction and two traction tires ensure reliable traction - even with long freight trains or inclines in layout operation.

Lighting & Design Features

A light change in white/red depending on the direction of travel ensures a prototypical representation during operation. The modern LED technology ensures low-maintenance use and clear visibility - ideal for day and night operation. The locomotive is visually impressive with the typical SNCB design in Era VI, implemented with sharp printing and precise color separation.

Dimensions & Compatibility

With a length over buffers of 217 mm, the BR 187 is a stately model that can nevertheless be used on all H0 track systems with a minimum radius of 358 mm without any problems. The locomotive is equipped with an NEM shaft and close coupler link and can be flexibly integrated into freight or international long-distance trains.

Prototype & field of application

The class 187 is part of the Bombardier TRAXX family and is used throughout Europe - including by the SNCB for cross-border freight and passenger services. In Era VI, it is mainly used on modern, electrified lines. The model therefore allows the realization of international scenarios in modern rail traffic.

The scope of delivery includes the Piko 21797 BR 187 electric locomotive in DC version, operating instructions and accessories for individual detailing. The locomotive can be retrofitted with analog and digital ex works.
