The Piko 22005 is the sound version of the popular three-axle diesel locomotive Rh 500 of the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) - an indispensable model for fans of Dutch railroad operation in Era IV. With a factory-installed PIKO XP sound decoder and numerous detailed features, this locomotive offers an authentic driving and sound experience on your H0 layout.

Between 1946 and 1989, the Rh 500 formed the backbone of the shunting service in the Netherlands. The first ten locomotives came from British military stocks, followed later by 35 new NS locomotives. In the 1970s, the former olive green color scheme was replaced by the typical yellow-grey NS design - as shown on this model.

The model is equipped with a PluX22 sound decoder that reproduces realistic locomotive sounds such as engine start, idling, running, braking and whistle. The equipment includes a white/red light change depending on the direction of travel and digitally switchable driver's cab lighting. All lighting functions are based on energy-saving LED technology and can be conveniently controlled via your digital control unit.

Detailing & design

The locomotive impresses with its fine spoked wheels, attached battery and sand boxes, air tanks and spring assemblies as well as precise lines and grab irons. Further visual highlights are the water level indicator, tank filler neck, sign holder and locomotive whistle. Suitable accessories are included for display in the showcase.

Technology & operating characteristics

With a length over buffers of 104 mm, the model is particularly suitable for layouts with station and shunting operations. The minimum radius is 358 mm, two traction tires ensure reliable tractive power. The locomotive is equipped with an NEM shaft and close coupler link and can therefore be used flexibly.

Prototype & field of application

The Rh 500 was used throughout the NS network in Era IV - mostly in shunting service, but also on transfer trains. It was the typical workhorse in the freight yards of the Netherlands. This model brings this authentic everyday operation realistically to your layout.
