The Piko set of 2 FS telescopic hood w agons brings two typical Era IV freight wagons to your layout. These cars were designed for the transportation of weather-sensitive heavy goods such as steel coils or machine parts. In the design of the Italian state railroad FS, they are ideal for international freight trains of the 1970s and 80s.

Design & technology - stable, prototypical, well thought out

Both wagons in the set have realistically reproduced telescopic hoods, numerous separately attached parts and a harmonious reproduction of the Y-bogies. Despite the detailed design, they offer excellent rolling characteristics and are also suitable for regular operation in long trains.

Prototype: FS telescopic hood car - protected and heavily loaded

In Era IV, the enclosed transportation of sensitive goods increasingly became the standard. Telescopic hood wagons with sliding roof hoods enabled easy loading while providing protection from the weather. FS used such wagons both for domestic traffic and for international transportation in cooperation with DB, ÖBB or SBB.

Model railroad compatibility & operation

The wagons are designed for H0 DC systems and run safely on a minimum radius of 358 mm. Thanks to the NEM shaft with close coupler link, they are ideal for use in combination with other covered freight cars or coil cars.
