PIKO 97807 H0 Electric locomotive E.428 1st series, FS, Ep. III, DC sound
In the late 1920s, the electrification of the Italian railroad network with direct current ushered in a significant change in rail transportation. In order to meet the new requirements, the Italian State Railways (FS) needed a powerful and forward-looking electric locomotive. In this context, the E.428 series was developed, which was a direct further development of the E.326. A total of 242 machines of this type were built between 1934 and 1943. They were used throughout the Italian peninsula for decades and proved to be extremely reliable in daily operation.
Historical significance of the first series
The E.428 is traditionally divided into three series. The first series comprises 122 locomotives and is particularly easy to recognize thanks to its striking design with two front ends. In contrast to the later series, which had an increasingly aerodynamic design, the first series was still strongly oriented towards classic designs. This design gives the machines of the first series an unmistakable, robust character that still delights railroad enthusiasts throughout Europe today.
State-of-the-art model technology with digital sound and light
The PIKO 97807 H0 electric locomotive E.428 1st series impresses with a variety of digital functions that are integrated in this model implementation at the factory. Particularly noteworthy is the built-in PluX22 sound decoder, which generates authentic operating sounds via the PIKO TrainSound® system. The spectrum ranges from realistic traction motor noises to characteristic additional sounds and thus ensures an extremely lively presentation on the layout.
Digital lighting functions for a realistic overall picture
The locomotive offers the option of separately switching the cab, interior and engine room lighting digitally - provided that a suitable digital decoder has been retrofitted. This allows the model to be perfectly staged in various lighting situations. This is complemented by the direction-dependent light change in white and red, which ensures additional operational reliability.
Detailing and mechanics at the highest level
The model is also impressive in terms of mechanics and appearance: Two finely crafted metal scissor pantographs adorn the roof of the locomotive and emphasize the high-quality overall impression. The robust design is complemented by modern coupling equipment with close coupler link and NEM shaft, which ensures smooth integration into existing car formations. The recommended minimum radius of 358 mm also makes the locomotive interesting for layouts with a medium amount of space.
For ambitious model railroaders aged 14 and over
With its extensive equipment, historical authenticity and digitally controlled sound and light system, the PIKO 97807 is aimed at experienced model railroaders. The model is designed for operation with direct current and meets all the requirements for contemporary H0 vehicle use in Era III.
