The Roco 7300086 M62-901 diesel locomotive of the Raaberbahn/Györ-Sopron-Ebenfurti Vasút (GySEV) is a highly detailed model of a robust locomotive that was used in Era IV. With numerous intricate components, built-in lighting and a detailed reproduction of the bogies, this locomotive is a highlight for all model railroaders who want to recreate the international rail traffic of the 1970s and 1980s.

Historical background

To speed up traction changes in cross-border traffic, Raab-Ödenburg-Ebenfurter Eisenbahn AG (GySEV), an Austrian-Hungarian joint venture, procured six standard gauge locomotives in 1972. These were classified as the M62.9 substructure series and stationed in Sopron. Until they were taken out of service in 1996, they were important locomotives for freight and passenger traffic.

Detailed model design

The model impresses with a complete reproduction of the brake air lines with formed air tanks. The bogies are particularly authentic so that the locomotive looks realistic in all perspectives. Free-standing shunter's grab irons underneath the buffers round off the picture and give the locomotive additional richness of detail.

Technical equipment

The locomotive has six powered axles, two of which are equipped with traction tires. A powerful motor with a flywheel ensures smooth running characteristics and high tractive power. The head/tail light with LED technology depends on the direction of travel and can be set individually using a DIP switch. Driver's cab and engine room lighting are also installed and can be switched separately in digital mode.

Use on the model railroad

With a length of 202 mm over buffers and a minimum radius of 358 mm, the M62-901 is suitable for use on most H0 layouts. Thanks to the NEM 362 coupling mount with close coupling kinematics, the locomotive can be easily integrated into mixed train formations. In combination with GySEV passenger or freight cars, an authentic picture of international rail traffic in Era IV is created.
