Diesel locomotive T 478.3137, CSD, Era IV, DC sound: A unique model from Roco
The T 478.3137 diesel locomotive of the Czechoslovak State Railways (CSD) is an impressive model that impresses with its detailed reproduction and technical equipment. This model in the characteristic design with a gray frame and red roof brings the striking appearance of the so-called "diving goggles" or "spectacle snake" to H0 gauge layouts. With a length over buffers of 190 mm and numerous functions, this locomotive is a highlight for every model railroad fan.
The prototype: The T 478.3 series
The T 478.3 diesel locomotive was developed at CKD in Prague and built from 1968. A total of 408 of these striking locomotives were built, which were nicknamed "diving goggles" or "spectacle snake" due to their characteristic front design. The locomotives were designed for passenger and freight trains and were considered a milestone in the development of Czechoslovakian railroads due to their reliability and versatility.
The T 478.3 series locomotives were used throughout the Czech Republic and Slovakia and shaped the appearance of rail transport in Era IV. The combination of powerful drive and characteristic design made it one of the best-known locomotives of the CSD.
Roco: Precision and quality
Roco stands for model railroads that impress with the highest level of detail and innovative technology. The T 478.3137 model is a prime example of these high standards. The locomotive impresses with an exact reproduction of the striking design, finely detailed bogies and many separately applied plug-in parts. Individual lettering can be added with an enclosed set of signs. The lighting functions are based on the CSD model and provide additional realism.
Technical details and functions
The model has been developed for H0 gauge on a scale of 1:87 and has a shaft coupler in accordance with NEM 362 with KK kinematics. The minimum radius is 358 mm, which means that the locomotive can also be operated on demanding layouts. Four powered axles and a traction tire axle ensure excellent traction. The LED lighting includes 3 headlights and 2 tail lights depending on the direction of travel as well as additional light functions.
The PluX22 digital decoder enables smooth operation on digital layouts and offers realistic sound reproduction. The model is equipped with a powerful motor with flywheel mass, which ensures quiet and smooth running.
