Description

Roco 7520025 Elektrolokomotive 243 001-5 „Weiße Lady“, DR, Ep. IV, AC-sound Product Details

The progressive electrification of the DR rail network necessitated the development of a four-axle electric locomotive in the early 1980s. Originally, two versions were planned. A class 212 with a top speed of 160 km/h for express train service and a class 243 with a top speed of 120 km/h for passenger and freight train service. In 1982, the 140 km/h test locomotive 212 001 from LEW Hennigsdorf was presented at the Leipzig Spring Fair. However, as the DR speed concept at the time only provided for a maximum speed of 120 km/h, the 212 did not go into series production.

The prototype of the 212 series was initially used for an extensive testing program. It was then sent to Raw Dessau for trial dismantling. The purpose of this was to determine economical maintenance and inspection of the main assemblies. In the course of this, the gear ratio was changed, the maximum speed was reduced to 120 km/h and the locomotive was renumbered 243 001. In the subsequent test program, the "White Lady" constantly proved her reliability. The Deutsche Reichsbahn then returned the prototype to the manufacturer KLEW.
