Roco electric locomotive 103 002-2 - TT, DB, Era IV
The Roco 7580031 represents the pre-series locomotive 103 002-2 of the German Federal Railroad. This elegant express locomotive in Era IV design with scissor pantographs is a real highlight for any TT layout. With its Next18 interface, detailed workmanship and authentic appearance, it brings the beginnings of German express train history to the model.
Design & workmanship
The locomotive is depicted in the version up to 1976 and shows the pre-series design of the 103 with characteristic scissor pantographs. Clean printing, filigree roof superstructures and separately attached plug-in parts ensure maximum attention to detail. The striking design of the early 103 gives the model an unmistakable appearance.
Technology & equipment
A 5-pole motor with flywheel mass guarantees smooth running characteristics. Four axles are driven, two of them with traction tires for better tractive power. The lighting includes 3 headlights and 2 tail lights that switch depending on the direction of travel and are equipped with LED technology. Electrically, the model is designed for DC analogue operation and is equipped with a modern Next18 interface - ideal for later digitization. The locomotive is also Z21 cab compatible.
Historical background
The E 03, later known as the BR 103, was the first German express locomotive with a speed of up to 200 km/h. It was first presented at the International Transport Exhibition in Munich in 1965 and was in regular service from 1965. The four pre-series locomotives were initially used in high-quality TEE and F train services, and were later increasingly used for test runs. Based in the Hamburg-Eidelstedt depot from 1974, their scheduled use in long-distance service ended in 1979, after which the locomotives were used exclusively in the Deutsche Bundesbahn's experimental service.
Compatibility & possible uses
The model is suitable for DC analog operation, but can easily be upgraded to digital thanks to the Next18 interface. Can be used prototypically in front of TEE and F trains of the 1960s and 1970s as well as in Era IV test scenarios.
Purchase arguments & target group
This model is aimed at collectors and model railroaders who would like to experience one of the most famous German express locomotives in pre-production condition. The 103 002-2 is a milestone in railroad history and an indispensable highlight for any Era IV layout.
