About the original: With the conversion of traction from steam to diesel in the 1960s, the DR also entered the era of specialization agreements within the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance. This meant that diesel locomotives with higher power could no longer be built in the GDR. The first of these imported series was the V 200, later the 120 series, with 1470 kW (2000 hp) for freight service. This was produced as the M 62 in the Luhansk locomotive factory in the Soviet Union (now Ukraine). From 1966 to 1975, the DR imported a total of 378 units. In most cases, these were used for heavy freight services and, due to the lack of train heating, only occasionally in front of passenger trains during the summer months. As all DB class 220 locomotives had already been retired by the time of reunification, the DR converted over 200 class 120s into class 220s, which were still in service after the merger of the DR and DB until 1995. Today, DB AG still owns 7 of them, which have been refurbished as museums. During its years of service, the locomotive earned the nickname "Taiga Drum" due to the loud engine noise.

About the model: Roco is now reproducing this iconic DR freight locomotive with this model. Particular attention was paid to the richness of detail of the running gear, which for the first time has complete brake air lines with fully formed air tanks and can shine with a particularly authentic reproduction of the bogies. Individually attached windshield wipers and free-standing handle bars are just some of the many other details apart from the running gear. A powerful motor with flywheel mass drives 4 axles of the model, which ensures excellent running characteristics and a great transfer of power to the track. A factory-fitted Plux22 sound decoder enables digital switching of the extensive light and sound functions. The sounds have a clear, powerful and true-to-the-original sound thanks to a high-quality loudspeaker.
