Tillig 95581 TT Open Freight Car Om, DR, Era III Product Details

Tillig 95581 TT Om Open Freight Car, DR, Era III – Early GDR freight car with an export history

Are you looking for a historically authentic model representing freight transport on the early Deutsche Reichsbahn? The Tillig 95581 TT Open Freight Car Om in Era III is the perfect addition to your DR freight trains from the 1950s and early 1960s. Based on an export design, this model combines technical GDR engineering with an international history—now faithfully reproduced in 1:120 scale.

Export car with solid GDR construction

In 1951, VEB Waggonbau Niesky delivered 250 Vtu-class open freight cars to ČSD as part of an export order. The cars were developed by the LOWA design office and were based on the Omm “Klagenfurt,” though they were 900 mm shorter. Following the delivery to ČSD, the Deutsche Reichsbahn also acquired approximately 250 of these cars—evidence of the close economic cooperation within the Eastern Bloc.

In original condition with wooden side walls

The model in Era IIIversion depicts the car in its original condition with wooden side walls, as it was in service in the 1950s—before many cars were converted to sheet metal walls in the 1960s as part of general overhauls. This authentic look makes the model particularly interesting for scenes depicting the early history of DR freight transport.

With a length over buffers of 76 mm, the car is ideal for compact shunting scenes, branch line operations, and transfer traffic. The authentic DR lettering, finely reproduced wood grain, and neatly detailed undercarriage components underscore the model’s high quality. The NEM-compliant coupler mount and close-coupling kinematics enable safe and prototypical operation.

Versatile for use in Era III freight traffic

Whether in mixed freight trains, at industrial sidings, or during shunting operations—this Om car fits perfectly into any Era III scene. It pairs perfectly with Class 86, 55, or 92 steam locomotives, as well as with other covered or open freight cars from the DR of that era.

A piece of model railroad history for your layout

With the Tillig 95581 Open Freight Car Om, you’ll receive a historically significant model for your collection or for realistic operation. For fans of the early Deutsche Reichsbahn and enthusiasts of well-crafted Eastern Bloc rolling stock, this car is a true must-have—compact, richly detailed, and historically accurate.
