Which model railway layouts is the Viessmann 5700 level crossing suitable for?

The level crossing is designed for TT scale layouts in 1:120 and is intended for model railways and dioramas in dry indoor environments. The supplied St Andrew’s crosses and warning beacons can be shortened to represent the road regulations of Eras II and III. This allows the model to be used in a variety of historical scenes.

Which components are included?

The set contains two crossing barriers, each with its own underfloor drive, two barrier supports, one track infill piece, four approach ramps and the required mounting rings. Two traffic signs, two St Andrew’s crosses and twelve warning beacons with posts are also supplied. A transformer, switching contacts, relay and digital decoder are not included.

Does the barrier operate automatically when a train approaches without additional accessories?

The motorised barriers are included and move slowly up and down. However, additional switching tracks or contacts are required for train-activated automatic operation. A suitable electronic relay, such as the Viessmann 5552, is also required on a double-track route so that the barriers remain closed until both trains have cleared the crossing.

Can the level crossing be controlled on analogue and digital layouts?

Yes. The drives require an operating voltage of 16 volts AC or DC. On a digital layout, they can be connected to a suitable accessory decoder in the same way as a point or signal. The decoder should have a separate input for the switching voltage. Peak current consumption is up to 0.7 amps for a brief period.

Each barrier has an individual underfloor drive, allowing different track spacing, angled crossings and multi-track arrangements to be created. A 13 mm mounting hole is required for each drive and a 1 mm hole for each barrier support. The distance between the hole centres is 50 mm for the TT version.
