ASM Arndt Spezial Modelle 597104 H0 2-Car Set Passenger Cars 'Marschbahn', DB AG, Era VI, AC-Digital
Are you looking for a modern H0 car set that lets you authentically recreate the Marschbahn’s RegionalExpress service between Hamburg-Altona and Westerland? The ASM Arndt Special Models 597104 H0 2-Car Passenger Car Set 'Marschbahn', DB AG, Era VI, AC-Digital is an attractive addition for model railroaders who want to create contemporary DB regional rail scenes with high-quality passenger cars. The set captures the unique transitional phase during which the cars, previously used by the Nord-Ostsee-Bahn, were leased to DB Regio Schleswig-Holstein following the 2015 tender for transportation services.
After DB Regio Schleswig-Holstein emerged as the new operator of the Hamburg-Altona–Westerland RegionalExpress trains, the existing car sets were taken over by a leasing company. Since it was already foreseeable that the cars would later receive a new exterior design in the Schleswig-Holstein state livery, the previous color scheme of the Nord-Ostsee-Bahn was modified only slightly. It is precisely this interim solution that makes the model particularly interesting, as it showcases a distinctive variant of modern regional rail transport that can be clearly dated.
Marschbahn Cars with Modified NOB Color Scheme
On the prototype cars, the entry doors were painted turquoise instead of melon yellow. In addition, the operator logos were replaced, while the service’s client, “NAH.SH,” was prominently advertised on the sides of the cars. This design gives the cars a distinctive character and makes the set a suitable choice for model railroaders who wish to realistically depict regional rail service in Schleswig-Holstein during Era VI.
Some of the control cars were fitted with silver-gray “bibs” at the front, while others retained the Nord-Ostsee-Bahn’s melon yellow. This special design is also reflected in the model. As a result, the set appears particularly true to the prototype and offers an exciting visual contrast to the completely redesigned cars featuring the later state design.
Prototype-accurate paint scheme and multicolored interior
All models correspond exactly to the prototype in terms of paint schemes and lettering. The cars feature close-coupling mechanisms with NEM coupler sockets for close coupling. This allows them to be seamlessly integrated into compatible train formations and makes them well-suited for realistic RegionalExpress sets in H0 scale.
The interior is also multicolored, contributing to the set’s high-quality appearance. The interior design plays a particularly important role in passenger cars, as it is shown to its best advantage in combination with the built-in interior lighting. This creates a lively impression that significantly enhances the layout experience.
AC-Digital with Interior Lighting and Light Cycling
The cars are designed for the 3L AC system and are digitally equipped. As with previous H0 models, these cars also feature built-in interior lighting as well as headlight and tail light functions that change with the direction of travel. The lighting circuit boards already include a digital decoder that also functions in analog mode.
Buffer capacitors—so-called “Gold Caps”—in each car ensure reliable lighting. In addition, the destination signs are backlit in matching colors. The circuit boards were developed from scratch by KRES in Fraureuth near Zwickau, where production also takes place. If you’d like to expand your H0 layout with a high-quality, illuminated Marschbahn car set from DB AG, this ASM 2-car set is an excellent choice.
