Description

Bemo 3544108 H0 Standard Car IV "Bernina Express" A 1273, RhB, Era V, AC Product Details

Introduction

The Bemo 3544108 H0 Standard Car IV “Bernina Express” A 1273 of the RhB, Era V is a prototypical model of a first-class car from the famous Rhaetian Railway. This car is part of the Standard Car IV series introduced in 1993 and was an important component of the high-quality trainsets of the “Bernina Express”. In the version for the 3-wire alternating current (AC) system, this model is perfectly suited for Märklin-compatible H0 layouts with an Alpine theme.

Design & Workmanship

The A 1273 features the RhB’s elegant red livery with a white “Bernina Express” logo—a striking eye-catcher on any model railroad. The high-quality printing, intricate engravings, correctly proportioned windows, and fine roof details underscore the excellent craftsmanship. With a length over the buffers of 188.3 mm, the car blends harmoniously into train sets consisting of Einheitswagen IV cars.

Historical Background

Starting in 1992/93, the RhB expanded its capacity for long-distance tourist service with the Standard Class IV cars. The A 1273 was one of three first-class cars in this series that were procured specifically for the “Bernina Express.” In combination with the EW III series cars, they provided two complete train formations starting in 1995 on the spectacular route from Landquart via Davos to Tirano—a combination of comfort, panoramic views, and technical precision.

Compatibility & Expansion Options

This model is designed for operation on 3L AC systems and can be easily combined with other EW IV and EW III cars. Locomotives such as the RhB’s Ge 4/4 II or Ge 4/4 III are ideal partners for this model. The car is suitable for a minimum curve radius of 360 mm and features an proprietary coupler mount for secure connections within the train set.

What’s Included

The fully assembled IV A 1273 standard car is delivered in the “Bernina Express” design, ready for operation on analog 3-wire AC systems.

Sales Arguments & Target Audience

The Bemo 3544108 A 1273 is aimed at Märklin enthusiasts, RhB fans, and model railroaders who value prototypical trains with a high level of detail. As a first-class car, it perfectly complements any “Bernina Express” consist on AC layouts.
