About the prototype: In December 2022, a train connection opened in Switzerland with a very special feature. The route from Montreux on Lake Geneva to Interlaken extends over a total of 115.34 km and consists of a 62.43 km long section of track, which is covered on narrow-gauge tracks, and a 52.91 km long section on normal tracks. This is what makes the line so special, but also quite complicated to implement due to the fact that the entire connection was to be implemented without changing trains. The existence of the connection in this form is made possible by a gauging plant in Zweisimmen, which adapts the bogies of the wagons to the corresponding track dimensions. The train for the route consists of two control cars, two panorama cars and has been given an appealingly modern design. Between Zweisimmen and Interlaken, on the normal track section, the train is powered by a BLS Re 465 electric locomotive. To make this possible, an interface car is placed between the locomotive and the control car, which has the coupling of the control car on one side and that of the locomotive on the other.
About the model: In order to realize the train set of this special route appropriately, Bemo decided to produce it both as an H0 DC and AC version and as an H0m narrow gauge version. This model of the ABst 381 control car is designed for H0 direct current and has a wide variety of functions and details. These include a detailed interior, which can be excellently staged with the pre-installed interior lighting. The model also has an illuminated train destination display on the front and a head signal. In order to be able to exploit the full potential of the control car, it has a Next18 interface for easy retrofitting of a digital decoder.
