Description

Brawa 44719 railcar BR VT 137 349 + sidecar VS 145 207 der DRG, Ep. II (Sound) AC Product Details

DRG combustion railcar BR VT 137 and sidecar BR VS 145

After the newly founded Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) took over the railcars, a number of design changes were made in the 1950s to make the vehicles, now designated VT60.5, fit for the coming period of service. In Friedrichshafen, the engines were replaced by the 330 hp MAN engines that were already being used in small locomotives of performance group III. The upholstery of the upgraded 3rd to 2nd class also increased passenger comfort. In the 1960s, many railcars also received modern DB lamps for better visibility on the track and lost the conspicuous railcar lamps from the Reichsbahn era. The uniform carmine red color scheme for DB diesel vehicles also soon replaced the old DR color scheme. In contrast to its first home, the DB distributed its 31 VT60.5s to significantly more depots, with the Rheine, Darmstadt, Stuttgart, Kassel, Frankfurt-Griesheim, Heilbronn, Nuremberg and Friedrichshafen depots being among the main places of use. Six railcars were leased to the American occupation forces until 1960. A total of 10 VS145s are known to have been used by the Bundesbahn in 1952, most of which were operated with VT60.5. In Bremen and Wuppertal, however, they were also used with VT36.5 or V36. Together with the last VT60.5, the last VS145, now designated as class 945, was also taken out of service in Rheine in 1972.

The BRAWA models of the VT60.5 series are realized with high fidelity to the original and are characterized by numerous details. The transmission block is made of die-cast zinc. Drive is on two axles. The railcars are prepared for sound or already come with built-in sound depending on the order number.
