Description

Brawa 48544 Kesselwagen ZZd [P] "VTG" der DB, Ep. IV Product Details

About the prototype: In the early 1940s, H. Fuchs Waggonfabrik A.G. in Heidelberg, among others, manufactured 6-axle tank wagons for transporting acids to meet the increasing needs of the armaments industry and for other important wartime transportation. The wagons had a riveted underframe, riveted bogies and were equipped with hand brakes and a Hildebrand-Knorr freight train brake. The tank was designed as a 10-shot welded construction and had 40 mm thick insulation as well as a heater with connections at the non-handbrake end. A transition platform with brakeman's cab was attached to the handbrake end.

With a capacity of just under 40 cubic meters, the boiler was comparatively small. However, due to the distribution over six axles, the average axle load was quite low and the wagons could also be used fully loaded on lines with a lighter superstructure. The boilers could only be filled and emptied from above, as bottom valves were previously not permitted on wagons for transporting acid. The cars, most of which were hired as private cars by large factories in the chemical industry on the German State Railroad, were used to transport their products between the various locations.

About the model: The prototypical model of the DB 6-axle ZZd [P] "VTG" tank car is from Era IV and is impressive with individually attached axle bearing covers and spring assemblies as well as close coupler kinematics. The car has a length of 155 mm. All further information can be found under the features.
