Brawa 50490 Rungenwagen Rr, DRG, Ep.II Product Details
About the model: The DRG stake car Rr is a detailed model of the BRAWA brand. In addition to its prototypical appearance, the wagon impresses with other features such as extra details and close-coupling kinematics. The stanchions attached to the side ensure that the load does not slip. Furthermore, the model has a length of 139.1 mm and has been given the road number "Stuttgart 80 765".
About the prototype: The stake cars were also redesigned in the mid-1920s according to the replacement construction principles. It was decided to use the chassis of the Gl wagon, so that the wagon was longer than its predecessor of the association design and had two more stanchions. However, the larger loading area had no effect on the loading weight, which remained unchanged at 15 tons. As the majority of the goods transported generally had a high volume with a low weight, this did not have a negative effect. As with the G wagon, a large proportion of the stake wagons were also convertible to Russian broad gauge in keeping with the spirit of the times and were marked accordingly by the white buffer sleeves and the secondary class mark "r". The floor was subject to multiple changes. While the first 180 coaches, which were built from 1926 onwards, still had a floor made of 56 mm thick planks, from 1934 onwards two crosswise layers of 32 mm each were used. At the beginning of the 1940s, all wagons were then fitted with 72 mm thick planks - trucks and tracked vehicles were now the main means of transportation. A total of 1643 wagons were delivered to the DRG, so that the R(rh) "Stuttgart" played a rather modest role in the entire stock of stake wagons. It shared this fate with almost all the replacement construction wagons, most of which did not even come close to the numbers of their predecessors. In addition to road vehicles, they were mainly used to transport tree trunks, sawn timber, sheet metal, profiles and other large-volume, moisture-resistant goods.
