The prototype - Fads 175: The backbone of DB bulk goods traffic
The Fads 175 were procured by the DB from 1969 and differed from the UIC type Fads 176 due to design details such as modified flap locks. With their high load capacity and stable bogies (BA 664, 664.1, later Y25), they were ideally suited for transporting bulk goods that were not sensitive to moisture, such as ore, coal or coke.

These wagons were used almost exclusively in block trains - often 40 to 50 wagons long and hauled by two class 043 or 044 steam locomotives. The ore transports from the port of Emden to the Ruhr area and Saarland via the Emsland line are particularly well known.
