Description

Brawa 50751 H0 Kesselwagen Z P, DRG, Ep.II Product Details

About the model: The DRG 2-axle tank car Z [P] is a 1:87 scale model of the Brawa brand. The model impresses with precise printing and painting as well as numerous details that authentically round off the model. The multi-part brake system, free-standing ladders and extra railings give this model an authentic look.

About the prototype: In the mid-1930s, advances in lightweight construction led to new generations of wagon construction in rapid succession. The introduction of welded boilers made it possible to save weight, which benefited an increased load weight. As a result, the wheelbase of the classic two-axle tank wagon design was increased from 4.00 m to 4.50 m from the end of the 1930s. The running gear corresponded to the design developed at the same time for the welded DR wagons and stood out due to its long suspension springs for smooth running, even at higher speeds. The resulting design was built in very large numbers by many European wagon factories until 1943 - MAN alone delivered 2250 units, although it was not a classic tank wagon manufacturer. In addition to a few private manufacturers, it was primarily the camouflage companies of the German Reich that received deliveries as part of the preparations for war. These included the "Wifo" and various "Oelvereine". The adjuster was more clearly named "Kriegsmarinewerft Wilhelmshaven"; these wagons were used to supply fuel to the submarine fleet. In total, well over 10,000 of these wagons with tanks of 20 m3, 22 m3 and 26.5 m3 were probably built. After the war, they were scattered all over Europe and were used as private cars by numerous companies in the oil industry. In addition to the classic gray and black paintwork, many also received eye-catching advertising liveries ranging from white and yellow (Mobil / Shell) to green and blue (Texaco / Aral). The last wagons were still in service with the DR in 1989.
