Brawa 50810 H0 passenger car B4mgl, DR, Ep.III Product Details
About the model: With this model, Brawa brings the DR B4mgl passenger car to your H0 layout true to the original. The car impresses with its detailed appearance. In addition to precise painting and printing, Brawa has equipped the model with true-to-scale windows and prototypical door reproductions. The multi-colored painted interior completes the authentic look of the car. Furthermore, the model has already been prepared for the subsequent installation of interior lighting.
About the prototype: At the beginning of the 1970s, the catering services in the DR's inland express trains were to be improved. In addition, many of the pre-war dining cars still in use were due to be taken out of service. The DR therefore examined the procurement of new dining cars. Delivery by the GDR's wagon construction department was out of the question for capacity reasons, so the only alternative was production in DR-Raw. Although the Mitropa factory in Gotha had already built six wagons from older vehicles as "Reko-Wagen" in 1960, it was decided to build a new design based on the Bghw wagons manufactured in Halberstadt. In the meantime, these were built from scratch and no longer contained any old parts. A total of 50 of the vehicles designated as WRge were built in two series in 1973 (20) and 1977 (30). They wore the typical wine-red Mitropa livery with four-language lettering, but without the ornamental lines previously used. Both series differed externally only by two windows in the kitchen section, which were intended to improve the lighting conditions in the second series. With a top speed of 140 km/h and multi-voltage heating, the coaches were suitable for international use and thus also reached destinations in the FRG and CSSR. After the conversion of most of the cars, only five original dining cars in red livery were still in service in 1989. Although the dining cars were to receive the new type number 541, they were completely decommissioned by 1993. Due to their short length and robust interior, many found a new home on museum railroads.
