Brawa 50845 H0 train set F 3/4 Merkur with BR 01 und passenger car, DB, Ep.III, AC

Reconstruction in Germany was in full swing when Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) launched a network of F-trains for business travel in the summer of 1951. In doing so, DB succeeded at the time in sending out a clear signal against the emerging individual automobile transport and the rapidly developing aviation industry, which was also recognized abroad. From the very beginning, this train network also included the train pair F 3/4 from Frankfurt (M) via Cologne to Hamburg and back, which was given the train name "Merkur" in 1952. In Roman mythology, Mercury is the god of trade, merchants and travelers. Over time, the Mercury changed its appearance more frequently and the route was also adapted to the needs of customers. Initially, the trains were hauled by BR 01 locomotives. In subsequent years, the class 03, 03.10, 18.5, 18.6, 39, V200 and E18 locomotives were used in sections. From the summer of 1959 to 1961, the F3 train was routed from Frankfurt via Wiesbaden Hbf. The rolling stock had already been converted to the new 26.4 m long 1st class coaches with an old type WR4ü-28,-35 or -39 dining car. In the summer of 1959, the 01 149 of the Darmstadt depot was regularly used for this section of line in front of the Merkur. Certainly also for economic reasons, BR 01s from the Wiesbaden depot subsequently took over the train haulage, as is illustrated by our 01 115.
